Item: King Edward VI Silver Shilling Tun 1551-53 Details: This lot offers a good example of the “Fine Silver Issue” struck during the final years of the reign of the young King Edward VI. Following years of currency debasement under Henry VIII, this issue restored the English shilling to a high standard of silver (0.925 fineness), making it a cornerstone of Tudor numismatic history. The coin is superior to the average circulated example. While it shows consistent wear on the King’s portrait and the central heraldic shield, the design remains bold and aesthetically pleasing. Crucially, this specimen has largely avoided the “clipping” so common to hammered silver. It retains its original wide diameter of 32 mm, and a nearly full, circular flan that weights 5.92 gr. Obverse: A striking facing portrait of King Edward VI in coronation robes. To the left is the Tudor rose, and to the right is the Roman numeral “XII” for twelve pence. The legend EDWARD VI D G AGL FRA Z HIB REX is well-defined and clearly legible. Reverse: The Royal Arms over a long cross fourchée, surrounded by the legend POSVI DEV ADIVTORE MEV (“I have made God my helper”). Mint Mark: The “Tun” (barrel) mint mark is visible on both sides, identifying the piece as a product of the Tower Mint in London. Condition: Circulated. Shipment: Secure Tracked 48 delivery via Royal Mail or Royal Mail Special Delivery (recommended). Please choose shipment to satisfy your protection needs. JC-C4
