Description South-Korean green tea mainly comes from the lush island Jeju, which lies opposite Japan. This organic “Sejak” green tea comes from a prestigious tea estate located near to both mountains and sea. In the early Spring, when the first tender shoots start to appear on the tea plants, the salty sea mist enhances the flavours developing in the plants. Established in 1979 on what was then barren land, Osulloc is also home to a stylish tea museum and an 18km hiking trail which takes you through a beautiful forest and various tea gardens. As a South-Korean green tea it is interesting because the cultivar used, Yabukita, is very popular in Japan. The terroir of the garden plays a role in the taste. Grown at just 200m, the soil is volcanic which is ideal for tea plants. The production method is also interesting, after harvesting the leaves are not steamed like in Japan, or pan fired like in China (to stop oxidization and keep the tea green), but immersed in boiling water for a few seconds. Later on in the production process the leaves are skillfully roasted, as they would when producing a Chinese green tea. The resulting tea is a delicate but aromatic pale yellow cup, fruity and sweet, flavour wise an interesting cross between Chinese and Japanese green teas. South-Korean green tea of this quality from South-Korea is hard to find in Europe. We think it would be a great alternative for our customers to China Emeralds.
