This area is one of the oldest tea-producing regions in Menghai County. Here stands Xishuangbanna’s highest peak—Huazhu Liangzi, rising to 2,429 meters and known as the “Summit of Banna.”The mountain is rich in wild huazhu (a native bamboo species), and vast bamboo forests stretch across its slopes.Since local people traditionally refer to the highest ridges as “liangzi,” the mountain was named accordingly.Huazhu Liangzi is named after bamboo, but it became renowned because of tea. The ancient tea gardens of Huazhu Liangzi sit at elevations between 1,650 and 2,100 meters, spanning parts of the villages under the Banglong, Banggang, and Manlü village committees. The area is home to three ethnic groups—the Hani, Lahu, and Han peoples. For centuries, they have lived here among towering mountains, dense forests, and wild bamboo, quietly protecting this pristine land. With its high altitude and subtropical monsoon climate, the region is shrouded in mist throughout the year. The dense vegetation and the soft, diffused light created by forests and clouds allow the ancient tea trees to accumulate exceptionally rich and elevated aromas.Long hours of sunlight make the leaves thick and tender. The intergrowth with diverse plants and animals, the seamless boundary between tea gardens and nature, and the naturally rich humus soil all contribute to the remarkably stable and complete ecosystem of Huazhu Liangzi. Teas from Huazhu Liangzi are born with a true high-mountain character—full in texture yet refined in temperament, with honeyed aromas that are both intense and long-lasting.The slight bitterness at the first sip quickly fades, allowing sweetness to rise and spread, leaving the mouth filled with lingering fragrance. Spring at Huazhu Liangzi is vibrant with life, especially for its ancient tea trees. After resting through the winter, the spring leaves reach exceptional quality. The material used for the 2021 Huazhu Liangzi tea comes from aged spring harvests, carrying a deep, distinctive “last-year spring aroma”—fresh, full-bodied, and endlessly intriguing.
