Description Samuel Coombes Merchant token, circa 1870. Manufacturing Clothier, Tailor, Outfitter. Queens Street, Auckland. He also ran a store in Grahamtown, Coromandel, on Albert Street, as a Gentlemans Mercer. Obverse: Portrait of Mr Samuel Coombes, the only New Zealand token from this period to feature the business owners face. Denomination is One Penny (token). Struck by Thomas Stokes. Copper, 34mm.
